P. A. Cooley and Leo Lawhorn lead a cast of local theatre favorites in a special reading of The Women, a benefit for the Alchemy Emerging Playwrights Program at JSC. This is the first announcement of The Women with an all-male cast, directed by a woman. We will be welcoming you back to the 1930's. It is being devised as a high-concept staged reading, an experiment that we hope will not only be funny and surreal, but a study in how identity in gay culture has become patterned on archetypes found in The Women. It is an experiment and a novelty, for sure; but it will be fun for all. It could even be slightly mind-bending. The director will be Joan Grinde. |
